Mar-A-Lago was not raided. Mar-A-Lago was subjected to an FBI search warrant. The FBI are not Vikings, and Mar-A-Lago is not Lindisfarne Abbey. Or a Twitch channel. I only object to the term "raided" because Trump's allies are using the word to make him look like a poor unfortunate victim, which the former President is not.

Gotta say though, all the GOP politicians who suddenly want the FBI defunded because their idol is not, in fact, above the law; can't help but feel a bit of schadenfreude.

Also, Trump is absolutely the kind of person who would kill himself before being imprisoned. Which is almost worse than him getting no punishment. After all, if he did kill himself, he'd be considered a martyr by his followers, and that would just be its own headache to deal with.

Yes. The answer is likely yes.

I'm not sure if I would agree that he's the type to do suicide before prison. Narcissists tend to believe that they're better than everyone around them regardless of circumstances, and I think he adores himself too much to resort to suicide. I could see him spending his entire time in prison screaming about how he's innocent because nonsense reasons and "the Dems" put him there because blah blah blah conspiracy and we'll all see the real truth one day when he gets out, and everyone is always against him because they're jealous of him, and....

I like your point about the semantics of this: making a distinction between the term being used ("raid") and what actually happened. It's easy to get caught up in unhelpful or damaging terminology when it's all we hear and a lot of people aren't good at analyzing rhetoric.

I can't picture Trump being taken away in handcuffs. I also can't see his defense team finding a way to argue for a lighter sentence, though, since the FBI has substantial evidence of tampering with classified documents in addition to taking them from the White House.

We should all be watching this very closely.

He's gotten away with so much already because so many people in positions of power have willfully chosen to look the other way, so anything is possible. My confidence in our justice system is nearly broken. I can only hope no one I love is ever wrongfully accused of a crime in this dystopia.
